How to move from Trakt to emberslate
Download your Trakt export
Request a copy of your data from Trakt. It arrives as a zip of JSON files. Keep it as it is; there is no need to unpack it.
Install emberslate
emberslate is available now on Google Play for Android. Install it and sign in.
Import and review
Choose Trakt in emberslate's import and pick the zip. You see what matched, how many episodes and films were found, and can deselect anything before it is saved.
Apply it
Apply the import to your library. Nothing already in your emberslate library is overwritten.
What carries over
- Every episode and film in your watch history, with its date
- Repeat plays, counted as rewatches
- Your show and film ratings
- Your watchlist and favourites
Titles are matched by the TMDB ids Trakt includes, so two shows with the same name never get mixed up. Episodes Trakt recorded without a date keep Trakt's placeholder date, and emberslate does not make up another.
After the move
What you get after the move
- Episode-level progress
- Mark a single episode, everything up to here, a season, or a whole series. Episodes you mark offline sync when you're back.
- A release calendar
- Every upcoming episode and premiere from what you follow, with airtimes shown in your own time zone.
- Stats that read your history
- When you watch, what you finish and drop, the directors you return to, and how your backlog is moving, all from your own records.
- Discussion and friends
- Follow people, compare taste, and talk about the exact episode you just watched.
All features are currently free, with no advertising. Read the privacy policy for what emberslate stores, and delete your account from the app or the web whenever you like.
Questions
Moving from Trakt
Does emberslate sync with Trakt?
No. emberslate imports a Trakt export file once. It does not connect to your Trakt account or keep the two in sync, so after the import you track in emberslate.
What carries over from Trakt?
Your watched episodes and films with their dates, repeat plays as rewatches, your ratings, watchlist and favourites. You review the matches before anything is applied, and the import never overwrites entries already in your emberslate library.
Will my watch dates be right?
Yes, where Trakt recorded them. If an episode appears more than once, the first watch is kept as the date and the others count as rewatches. Episodes marked watched in bulk on Trakt carry Trakt's own placeholder date, and emberslate keeps that date and does not invent a new one.
Is emberslate free?
Yes. All emberslate features are currently free, including release reminders, quiet hours, themes, advanced stats and your full timeline history. There is no advertising in the app. Pricing may change as the app grows, and we will explain any change before it affects you.
Is my export stored?
The uploaded file is read in memory and not saved as a file on our servers. The review staging is deleted when you apply or cancel the import, or automatically after seven days.
Is emberslate on iPhone?
Not at the moment. emberslate is an Android app, available now on Google Play. No other platforms have been announced.
Is emberslate connected to Trakt?
No. emberslate is an independent app made by emberfold labs. It is not affiliated with Trakt; it reads the export file Trakt provides.
